my daughter is going to be 14 weeks old in a few days and i haven't had my first period yet. i haven't had sex yet. at my 8 week checkup the dr said if i didn't start in 2-3 weeks they'd give me something to make me start, but i never told them i didn't start. i don't want to be taking medications if my body just isn't ready, but at the same time i want to know if anyone has had this happen and what they did. i mainly want to know from OBGYN's and people who have been through a similar situation what could be going on inside my body to keep my period from coming. when i had my daughter the nurse/dr checked inside to make sure the whole placenta came out etc. i really would like to be able to start my birth control and know when my periods will come rather than feel like it was going to start and it never does. i've felt like this for over a month.

At my postpartum check-ups my dr wasn't concerned at all that I hadn't gotten my period yet.
Like GUMBY said, "Count your blessings".
When my baby was about 5 months old I started my period again and it's been a bummer! I hadn't had to deal with it for about 14 months!
Those were the days! ;)

By the way, why does your doctor want you to start your period again so soon?
I think you're right not to want to take meds for that!
And if you want to start birth control then you should as long as the dr hasn't given you a reason that you can't -but not starting you period yet isn't a reason. My dr also put me on birth control after I was cleared at my last postpartum check-up.

If your doctor is not being clear with you or is giving you medical advice you don't agree with, you might want to consider getting a second opinion.
It's your body!
Good luck!

i had the same thing happen to me after my son. my husband is in iraq and was coming home for his two week leave four months after the baby. i needed to be on birth control so i broke down and took the medication that jump starts you. i had no side effects other than my period starting that night. it worked fast for me.

do what makes you most comfortable. i believe that you will start when your body is ready to.

I'm guessing you're not breastfeeding? Some women don't get a period at all while breastfeeding. Even if you're not it can take up to 6 months for your cycle to resume. Call your doc and ask him if there's a reason he wants you to start your period. Otherwise, count your blessings, when I breastfeed, I get mine at 6 weeks postpartum, when I don't breastfeed, I get my period at 4 weeks postpartum.

My situation is a little different because I DID breastfeed, but with my daughter, I never got my period back until she was 14 MONTHS old, and still everything was fine. It was a normal thing due to the hormones. (And it was great :-) )
