Sometimes no pain means no gain. But with that said, this in not an explination for fetish persons for torturing each other with whips and chains. My meaning is the painful road towards being successful. People usually will suffer to get ahead.
Let's not forget the women who give birth to children; that is pain and suffering for love.

As the Beach Boys said "Catch a wave and you're sitting on top of the world." The same with the net of course. The internet is not evil, it is what people use it for that is evil. As long as you do not use it for evil, it can be a source of information and entertainment, a way to keep in touch. Ignorant people label things they do not want to understand as works of the devil. Well, if you list all those things that are the work of the devil, most of us would be burning already. they once said TV and Rock and Roll were works of the devil. Elvis? work of the devil. Chocolate? Ice Cream? Works of the devil.
Think for yourself, you know what is right and wrong. You are old enough to decide for yourself.

Definitely... it helps us learn, appreciate, and be humble... I went through A LOT, and it's amazing how it makes you think, and become so well rounded. Don't get me wrong, the devil does some stuff to get us to turn away from the truth, but you know you are strong when you are able to resist those temptations and learn from those mistakes, right? That's why God allows it to happen, which a lot of people don't understand... Good question, made me think...

I think it's a natural part of life but if you bitc/h and bitc/h about it but don't do anything to change that then it's just plain stupid.
What has merit is the way you overcome suffering, not suffering itself.

The first Noble Truth:
Birth is suffering, aging is suffering, illness is suffering, death is suffering; union with what is displeasing is suffering; separation from what is pleasing is suffering; not to get what one wants is suffering; in brief, the five aggregates subject to clinging are suffering.

I think that suffering teaches us lessons in how to deal with things in life. I also agree with other posters that suffering helps us to appreciate other things in our life.
For instance. I lived in Iowa for a while and I suffered there. When I got back to Texas, I appreciated a whole lot more than I did when I left!!!!!

Suffering keeps us compassionate, empathetic and human. It grounds us and keeps us humble. If we didn't suffer we would all be spoiled brats.
