Ok, so I'm trying to install the sims 2 and I get this message "A problem occured when trying to transfer the file 'E:\TSData\Res\UserData\Storytelling\thumbnail_edae8d77_adb0f3ed.jpg' from the media." then it asks if I want to rety to copy the file, so I hit reply and it pops up again, no matter how much I press retry it keeps popping up so I have to cancel installation. This happens when the installation is about 98% finished. Argh! This is frustrating! How do I make it so that it will FULLY instal?

Sounds like your disk is scratched or you have a smuge. try cleaning the disk by taking a cloth and wiping in an OUTWARD fashion. not circular fashion. you can get replacement cds but you need to have registared and may cost like $7

I had an error like this months ago when I did some reinstalls. I was installing the holiday pack (replacing my original Sims 2 with the one that included holidays). It went well until installing one of the last CDs, can't remember which one.

I have a DVD-R and a CD-RW player. Normally I use the DVD to watch movies and CD for installs. Having that choice, I terminated the problem install on the CD and used the DVD on the Sims 2 CD and it installed without other problems. So in my case, using different hardware fixed the problem install. My system is regularly defragged, and I did check the CD player connections and cleanliness, and used the air can on it. The Sims 2 installation CDs were brand new, no scratches.

If all else fails, swapping out your CD player from another machine might help, if you don't have two on your system. There may be other solutions but my transient installation problem resolved quickly and that's my only experience with the CD problem. It hasn't had other problems reading CDs and the DVD player didn't miss a beat reading the 'problem' CD.

If it is a pirated CD then that file might be corrupt and it's no use trying again and again. But if it is an original EA game CD then call up their toll free number and complain it to them. They are liable to replace your game CD.

Firstly, read all the system requirements which are printed at the backside of the CD and then try to match them with your PC's sytem. THEN TRY TO INSTALL IT WITH A BANG!!!!!
