Idaho. You have the west enterence to Yellowstone Park. One of the most awesome things to see in the US. You also have Shoshone falls. Taller then Niagra but not as wide. Also you can picnic right next to it. Has some really neat things to do. Go whitewater rafting down the Snake River. Go to Sun Valley, some of the best skiing in the world during the winter and during the summer just fun to go biking, hiking or horseback riding around. In Lava Hot Springs you can soak in a natural hotspring on the river and Soda Springs Id has the only capped artisian soda spring in the world. Of course there is Bear Lake, so blue and beautiful just to fish there. You can also go mining for gem stones (opals, rudys, sapphires, emeralds, etc) in Spencer ID and of course you can even take a trip down the Oregon Trail and see how the Pioneers moved west in the US stopping at Massacare Rocks and Register Rocks. Of course this is just a few things to see. There is a petrified forest, lava caves, desert and mountains. It is easy to access. You can fly into the Salt Lake City, UT. Rent a car and just plan your own trip. I would start with Yellowstone park and work west.

Of the previous answers I'd agree with Idaho Gal. However don't limit your visit to 1 state and don't just see the cities. Modern cities have similar amenities worldwide except for their unique landmarks and language differences. Plan to visit several of the National Parks in order experience sights not available elsewhere.
