I don't think it's unethical BUT.....Wouldn't it be better to invest in companies that are researching alternative fuels?

no it's not ethical.
for 1, it is raping the earth and polluting it at the same time.
2, oil companies, where do u think their money goes? they don't re-invest for education in America,
3, it supports terrorism all over the world
4, it ruins nature and displaces indigenous people and animals natural habitats, the animals go extinct and the people are left homeless and hungry with no place to go
5 it is making only a handful of people extremely obscenely rich, while most people are dead broke, half broke or going broke, if they can find work at all
6. most of the world's oil is gone anyway, there is not even enough left for the current generation-- so if u invest, how do u get ur money back when its all dried up? when they shouldn't be using fossil fuels in the 1st place because it's killing the earth? everything natural decomposes and nature takes over and then new things grow. draining the earth like that it causing serious problems that cannot be fixed because the oil is not there to finish changing and doing what it was supposed to do for the planet naturally.
what will happen when the earth is totally unlivable? find a fair trade organization to invest in

I did it , if it bothers you invest else where or give the profit to a charity.
Just so I can offend some one I bought Halliburton (HAL) and
OXY but with winter coming I intend to get out of oil between now and labor day and get into a Natural Gas company , BTW I sell that prior to the US driving season and buy Oil companies just before memorial day also pick up a energy company I use (DYN) Dynergy
P.S, Take a look at the statistic on how many people who died in car accidents ,and how many lives where ruined because of liquor and you dont see anyone protesting them ?
People don't think any thing of eat Kraft mac & cheese yet the same company sells ciggaretts.

Ethical - why would you ask that? It does make good business sense and that is why people invest - to make money. We will depend on oil and its products for many many more years.
