My brother is a tattoo artist in Florida, Look for a clean shop and make sure they they are compliant with the laws in your state some shops requre a license to operate. Make sure they are wearing rubber gloves. My brother also uses an audoclave to sterilize his equipment. My mother is a dental hygenist so she taught my brother about sterilization teniques. My brother has also gone to people and done tattoos also. Don't forget this will be on your body for a life time. Alot of people get skulls and butterflys and what they call "tramp stamps" that is thoes tattoos you see on the lower back when they wear low riders. Try to be unique with what you want. I had all my own flash drawn up I didn't want what someone else already had. I however did get one that matches my brothers in the same spot as my brothers so we would have matching tattoos. I hope this helps you in some way shape or form.

If she is underage and needs your consent, you might want to consider making her wait. Tattoos are permanent, and she might not like it 5 years down the road.
As far as reputable shops, the best people to talk to are ones that already have them in your area.
Try going to Yahoo Local and see if anyone has posted reviews for the shops. If not, and you can't find anyone with a tattoo, then walk into the shops and talk to the artists before deciding on one. He/she should have tattoos of their own. They will be happy to show you their work, answer all of your questions, and explain everything to you. Ask to see the area they ink in. It should be clean, almost hospital clean. The equipment should be well stored, and not just lying around. They should have a box of latex gloves, and plenty of new in packages needles. Also, ask if you can watch them do one to get an idea for yourself and your daughter about how they work. If any place has a problem with any of this, find somewhere else to go.

A tattoo is highly personal, and should have significance to you alone, not just a pretty picture you pick out of a book. Maybe a pretty picture out of book turns out to be exactly what you want, and that's okay, but don't expect to pick a tattoo by what someone else likes. If you are not sure what you want, then don't get anything yet. Wait until it means something to you. It will be with you forever, please let it stand for a love, a loss, a success that is personally yours.

Tatoo's can be verry price from parlor to parlor. And also there is a chance if the artist isnt sanitary your daughter could contract a STD or any infections or diseases. So just be cautious and do your research on the shops to see if they are sanitary.

i don't understand what the problem is.....if the tattoo she wants to get is small and respectable, whats the big deal?? everyone has their own taste on what they want. whether it be an "x" on their chest or their grandmas name on their arm, tattoo is body art...in my opinion there is no going wrong!

Cool mom! I don't know any of those places, but it's nice that you support her decision. She is old enough, right? Cause even though it's a fad, it's something a lot of people might one day regret.
