Start with Tom Sawyer and them move up to Huckleberry Finn. And no they aren't dry. They are actually quite good. Mark Twain was a helluva good writer.

Tom Sawyer first. Huck Finn is a sequel.
I never liked Mark Twain's writing very much. So I'm probably not the best judge. I read Tom Sawyer for school, and started Huck Finn for a book award, but didn't finish it. I made it about halfway through and got fed up with the whole darn thing!

I reccommend reading Huck Finn first - it's more of a searing commentary on race and prejudice. You have to read it with an open mind - understand that Twain isn't displaying racism himself but making a pretty big statement about it - displaying it in all of its extremes and absurdities. He wrote it after Tom Sawyer and it shows a sometimes sadder, darker view of society (but still very funny).
Tom Sawyer is a great book, lighter and easier to get through. It's a bit more of a kid's book, which is great because sometimes those are the most fun.

The books are not very good in todays society, but it is Tom Sawyer first, then Huck Finn. Huck Finn is the better read though.

Tom Sawyer is quite funny actually. And you should definitely read it first. I didn't. Which could explain why Huck Finn did very little for me when I read it in high school. (I read Tom Sawyer in college.)

Both books are classics. I recommend you read Tom Sawyer first. That way you will know the characters as the stories progress.

the words are hard to read and understand. Perhaps it's better to read the cliff notes.
