The only problem is that most people who donate their bodies to research want to wait until they're dead to have their stuff dissected. Very few people are willing to go through the torture of scientific testing when they're still alive.

Does that make it right to subject other animals to pain? Of course not.

So what is the compromise? Couldn't tell you. I personally find the human race to be pretty despicable, and I fully expect cockroaches to take over the planet in the next few generations.

So, if it's important to you for the human race to survive, then human and animal testing is okay. If you think the end of the world is in order, get yourself a cheesecake and a bottle of wine, and hold on tight.

Did you all hear about the 6 guys who were hospitalized after taking part in drug tests? That's a recent one, but there have been plenty more - thalidomide babies for example.

This is proof that animal testing DOESN'T work. Those drugs were tested on animals before they made it anywhere near people. The fact is that animals have different physiology to each other and to humans - results from animal testing are not accurate. What they are is cheap and easy - they are something that the backers of research accept and understand.

You can do more than support charities against animal testing like the BUAV (buav.org), you can also help fund the alternatives. This doesn't necessarily involve live humans but things like simulations and the use of human cell cultures.

There are these alternatives available already, and research is being done using them as well as research into improving them. One of the best organisations is the Dr Hadwen Trust (http://www.drhadwentrust.org.uk/ ).

Ummm..... no, not really.
Cosmetics should not be tested on animals, they aren't necessary.

But you can't not research on animals in medicine. Just think of all the things that you wouldn't be able to do with humans.

Look at diabetes- In order find that insulin could control blood sugar and regulate it, they would have had to GIVE people diabetes. You can't euthanize people and autopsy them to learn more either.

And here's another thing. Experimentation on humans has already been done. By the Nazis. So are you saying you want to torture INNOCENT PEOPLE. Remember, Torture happens to fall under the category of "CRUEL and unusual punishment" and is, at least in the US, unconstitutional. And I'd be surprised if the rest of the world felt it was just fine and dandy.

Testing on humans is the last stage of all drugs that go before the licensing boards. Usually it's college students that do the testing. They're reasonably healthy and still need the money enough to **** with their health.

i think so because i love animals so much and as we r at the top of the food chain we need to look after those animals lower down, with care and respect.

respect is not taking animals and sticking all sorts of chemicals and sh-t on their skin and fur. or sticking drugs inside of them 2 watch how they react.
this is an irresponsible way of treating them.

I think humans should volunteer to be used in experiments. they nneed to be fully warned of the dangers and effect though.

Of course it does - and it's beautifully illustrated by the fact that the medical profession can cure cancer in dogs.
I'm not a 'bleeding-heart' Everything is relative - we will all die in the end. The Planet is so over-populated that it's beginning to implode and all we can think to do is live longer.
You should read 'Animal Farm' - I think you'd enjoy it.

I think that criminals would be way better candidates or experimentation than some harmless animals.
I understand that need but we have many people out there who will never see the light of day again, I'm sure science could find a good use for them.
