Sounds like you're infected with spyware. Aside from the commercial offerings that many virus protection companies have added to their anti-virus, Adaware and Spybot search and destroy are two well known anti-spyware products that have free versions. Microsoft also has its windows defender product that is still in beta, but is pretty good.

Also, not using IE as your browser and switching instead to firefox is a good way to avoid getting infected with spyware.
