Actually a lot of people have placed a dish behind their router or antenna and found that their reception was better. There was a specific dish they were using but I imagine it works with quite a few. Of course this is a directional effect. You do not actually use any of the dish electronics just the dish as a reflector. I have seen several web sites that discuss this as well as how to make a directional wifi antenna using a pringles can or an asparugus can.
