Do you volunteer to help the world in which you live to make a better place? If so then how? Who do you help? Why? Why do you volunteer there or help those people, animals, or places? Do you think it is doing any good?

I do volunteer and help younger children and animal rescue groups. I can see that it does a lot of good for the animals to find loving homes where they are part of the family and when I take the time to teach a child something and give them the attention they crave.

In the GLBTQ community I was wondering how many gay, lesbian, or bisexual adults volunteer at your local GLBTQ youth groups. Do you think you should help the youth deal with and talk about some of the issues they will have to deal with? Did somebody at a youth group help you when you were younger and in the main "coming out" stage? Did you have somebody to talk to? Are you now that person to talk to for someone else?

I was in a Lions Club but it got too much so I left. It just wasn't enjoyable anymore.

Now I work on the Queensland Pride Committee. It was something I did for the first time this year at Pride Day and it was excellent.

I feel like I am achieving more within the GLBT community than I ever did for the local community. As I am only new to it all though I'm not quite ready to volunteer within a Youth Group or anything - I have to get myself better sorted and then do it.

Living in a small town in England, I don't have the opportunity to volunteer. There are no queer groups here and no charities that particularly interest me. After graduating from university I would like to volunteer in America in organizations against capital punishment. In the future, when the opportunity arises, I will volunteer with gay rights campaigns, especially for equal civil marriage rights.
