Shannon Hale is a good writer for YA. The Goose Girl came out several years ago. It is a fantasy set in the distant past about a princess who to escape a mutiny by her guards flees and disguises herself as a peasant 'goose girl.' There is romance...but plenty of adventure as well. There are two companion novels. Enna Burning (2004) and one that just came out this year River Secrets--actually it's coming in September. I haven't read the companions...but Goose Girl is very good.

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine seems an obvious choice for a fantasy romance.

Spindle's End by Robin McKinley is a GREAT book 'about' Sleeping Beauty. Rosie (the Princess) lives her first twenty-one years in disguise as a peasant girl in a small village hiding from the evil fairy who cursed her on her naming day. Raised by two fairies (one 'official' and one 'apprentice'), she is very happy...as her 21rst birthday draws closer and closer...everyone who knows the secret begins to worry that her fate is unavoidable...
So you might look into Robin McKinley's works to see what you find.

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister may be appropriate for older readers. I don't remember anything "too serious" happening in it...unlike Wicked which was full of way-too-descriptive scenarios. That book is by Gregory Maguire and it was a tv movie too.

The Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld is not really 'fantasy' exactly...it is futuristic dystopia (society gone bad) which on the surface appears to be a happy utopia. There is romance in it. And it is full of adventure....chase scenes...bad guys...close calls...etc.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is a cross between realistic fiction (high school drama) and fantasy. Bella Swan falls in love with her classmate, Edward, who's her biology lab parter...but he's a vampire. Thus the dramatic adventures are really adventures and not just breaking nails or worrying about what dress to wear to prom. It is the first in a series. The second comes out in a few weeks...New Moon.

Almost all sci-fi/Fantasy books have a romantic side to them. Since there are hundreds of thousands of them you have to look for them. You might want to try the older authors' books such as H. Rider Haggard who wrote some interesting fantasy but had a romantic theme and yet were filled with adventure, tragedy and humor. Or maybe something by H. Beam Piper such as his 'Little Fuzzy' series.

The only series i can think of is the His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman.although it only gets romantic on the last book The Amber Spyglass. I think you should also look in to the books by Tamora Pierce or Garth Nix. oh and what about The Mists of Avalon? I dont know who the author of that is tho.
