The things learned in high school are idiotic. There is no way that any of it will ever apply to the real world. It's just basically a prison for teens. You're forced to go and you're not allowed to leave. All it does is stress kids out. Anyone else think so?

I agree with you that highschool is useless in some ways. For instance, the classes are pointless because you will remember very little of what you learned, say 10 years down the road.

But the reason it isn't useless is because in this day and age if you don't have a highschool diploma you aren't going to be able to get any jobs that will pay the rent.

Take it from me, I dropped out, but luckily I had the sense to go back and get my diploma. I don't know where I would be today had I not gotten my education. I know my resume would have been an embarrassment!

Hang in there, man!

Whatever effort you put into your courses at high school will benefit you. If you sit around acting bored and childish, you will never succeed.

Agree to make an earnest attempt to excel in school. Change your attitude because no likes a whiner.

Here are some examples of practical things that you learn in school. You learn how to get along with other people; how to work collaboratively in a group; how to communicate (oral and written); you learn study skills, time management, organization; how to take responsibility for your own actions, etc. All of these skills are important to get a good job and keep it.

Some say you will never use math. How do you know how to measure the width of your windows in order to buy the right size curtains? How to know how to figure out the number of pieces of lumber to build a deck? How do you know how to balance your checkbook and make a reasonable budget so you can pay the bills on time.

If you believe math is not important, then you slept through high school.

Truthfully, please do yourself a favor and take advantage of the free education that high school provides. Otherwise, you will be complaining when you make the minimum wage because you have no job skills.

I agree completely and I am not in high school. I graduated long ago and I have realized since then that high school is a complete wast of time. Go get a GED ( I have known chimpanzees that have passed it.... exaggeration of course) Then if you want go get your associates degree instead of going to high school it will knock two years off college and skip four years of nothing. If you don't know what you want to study in college get a job, after you get a GED. Job experience will help you make more money later and you don't have to pay for it(as opposed to education) and having a job may prompt you to want more education or at least help you decide for yourself what you may want to be educated in. Don't just complain and don't break the rules or skip school, you can get way more satisfaction out of the system by playing the game than by protesting it.

It depends on which high school you go to and which classes you take. Personally, my high school is worth pooh. They other students in my college have been taught stuff way above the level my high school prepared me for. (I was in the top 10% by the way). However, I did take some classes that helped me tremendously. For example, Spanish. It wasn't offered until high school and now that is my major! Music theory, it put me ahead of everyone else in my college theory class. I can see what you mean though. As far as English, I still use the same grammar because we never studied grammar except 3rd and 7th grade. Math, in my career I'll never need anything but everyday math. etc...

No, its not idiotic. You are learning how to use the language, how to do research, you are learning a lot of basic facts. Yes it stresses kids out a lot, it shouldn't--I think schools should do focus groups or individual interviews of students to see how to improve schools so they would not turn students off so bad. I hated high school, missed all of it I could get away with, but college is another world, you are not a prisoner, you are a scholar in college.

High school is for life preparation, and its sole purpose isn't to jam you full of facts. It's supposed to teach you HOW to learn, and you're supposed to figure out what your learning style is and move on from there. It also helps prepare you for society, because high school contains every personality type you are likely to find in the real world. Here's where you get to figure out how to deal with them.

You just have the back to school blues. You will use much of what you learn in high school later in the real world: writing for just about everything, math for measuring to cook, shopping, paying taxes, figuring out your check stub, build things, repairing things; science for basic health care, safety issues; humanaties/literature helped me land a foreign boyfriend (we talked about the classics!) Finishing high school shows you can complete something. That you can stay the course. You will also learn valuable social skills and how the pecking order in life works (it doesn't change much.)
Stay in school.

A good education is never useless. Hang in there, knowledge is the best gift you can give yourself. It lasts an entire lifetime. The benefits are endless, nothing to say of your earning power. Without credentials these days, you are on the fast track to nowhere. Get all you can, take it from an older struggling lady.

OK anyone who thinks high school is useless are the people that don't pay attention and get bad grades. When it comes down to it with out high school there would be nothing in the world, no computers, no homes, no cars. no streets nothing. High school gets you ready for life so people can build homes and cars and stuff.
