It is a very tricky question - and I really don't think liberal
or conservative models answer it.
However, I think the real question comes down to "What good
are we doing there? What can we reasonably hope to achieve?"
Are we preventing in inevitable civil war? Does that mean we
will be there forever?
I am not 100% convinced we should withdraw. I do think,
however, we need a better plan than "Stay the course."
Currently, the course goes nowhere.
Ultimately, if we're just hoping that things will get better
with no reasonable possibility that they will, then yes, it is
time to get out of there.
Why? Because the current situation is killing people pretty
quickly. A civil war, though bloody, will ultimately come to
a conclusion. That is - a lot of people will die - but then
the killing should stop.
At least, whatever killing that happens will not be at our
hands. At least not directly.
We did cause this mess. I wish there was something we
could do to reasonably make it all better.

You know the Iranian people are really friendly to Americans. If we were just a little bit nice and apologetic to Iran, they might respond and soften up. We did free all the Shia living in Iraq from virtual servitude under Saddam Hussain. Our policy of hating Iran and supporting Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, UAE and Jordan is going to backfire in the same way as supporting and supplying Saddam Hussain's Iraq during the Iran-Iraq War.
Similarly we sided with Pakistan during the 1971 war with India and all throughout the 80s and 90s. However things have changed now that Pakistan is a nuclear weapon state under a dictatorship that is being opposed by a strong, organized and paranoid terrorist undercurrent waiting for the right moment to explode. I hope and pray that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan continue to be our allies.

There is nothing to understand. Violence is in Iraqis' nature. The citizens of Iraq were brought up to believe that war is second nature. Small boys are trained to use weapons of mass destruction. It isn't fair, but the U.S. troops are there trying to establish peace. It is going to take the people of Iraq to change their ways to cease further violence on their own. I don't know if Bush should pull out the troops, but I believe he had no choice but to re-act to the terrorist attacks on 9/11. The thing is, you just shouldn't leave the job undone. Trying to fix something and then give up isn't the answer, no matter how deep of trouble your in.

OK, everyday members of the USA military are being attacked. WHY? Because Iraq is home to many sacred Islamic sites and we are considered outsiders, Christian infidels. Therefore, we are free game to be attacked because our very presence there defiles Islam, from their point of view. Also, the quality of life there has suffered because the USA is unable, for many reasons including the escalating violence, to maintain clean water and electricity. In fact, it is a fact that Iraqis had more fresh water and more electricity during the reign of Saddam. My friends who have been over in Iraq have told me that the Iraqis generally do not want us in their country. We are not welcome there. They want to solve their won problems in their own way. This is their will. Don't they have rights? Aren't they people? Are we somehow a superior kind of human with more rights and privileges just because we are American? Who died and left us in charge of the planet? See the point? Also, many argue that since Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11 and that our own government has concluded that Iraq did not have WMDs and posed no threat to the USA (remember our government has said this, not me), then one can conclude that we had no right whatsoever to invade Iraq.
It is retarded to say that just because we have spent so much money and lost so many people there that we should stay there until we like the outcome. That has become the reason for being there...because we are there???? Huh????

Things are getting worse in Iraq every month we are there AND it is costing A BILLION DOLLARS per WEEK. We can't afford it and we don't have the stomach to sacrifice more American lives.
At what point do you stop spending good money after bad. And, how do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Iraq?

I'm a conservative and I say we should never have gone in there in the first place. Seems the longer we stay the worse it gets over there, so I say get 'em out of there NOW.
It may not seem right to let the Iraqis clean up after us...but as I said, things are getting worse, not better.
