Our front yard is really small and very close to the neighbors. They are repeatedly on our yard, even talking to them doesn't keep them off our front yard. We have found that our grass has brown spots from their dog (we don't own a dog) their kids are continually crossing our yard, and along with the children their parents have ridden their bicycles on our yard. We will consider all suggestions. Thank You

if you don't want to put up an actual fence... you can put up a living fence..... by growing evergreen hedges/ trees... or a line of Rosa rugosa a rose hedge that no one will end up trying to cross because of the thorns, it is very hardy and spreads well!!!

I too had a problem with my neighbors always on our lawn and a cat. Although nothing seems to work with the cat I have managed to keep away the neighbors and we remain friendly. I would plant along the property line some privacy bushes of your choice as a back drop and plant the intire front yard with plants and small growing bushes, hostas and be sure to mulch or use stone to help with the weeding. Most dogs have no desire to root around in plants and the bushes should help. They would actually have to come completely around your bushes in order to get onto your property. Hope this help, I know how you are feeling.

jwabb05,
I don't know what kind of area you live in as far as climate. But check these shrubs out for thorny evergreens:
Carissa macrocarpa
Pyracantha
Rosa
Duranta
Xylosma

If nothing else, the barrier of shrubery would keep the people out.

There is a rather new device out on the market called a scarecrow. They are expensive, about $80, but they will detect movement at night and spray a three second burst of water.

A fence is probably the best way to deter unwanted visitors though.

I guess you could always plant barberry bushes or anything with stickers or thorns. Or you could install an invisible electric fence to scare off the dog. Or how about one of those water statues that sprays water at whatever moves in front of it. That might get rid of the neighbors.

Get a sign that says "Caution: Landmines". That might help. I have a similiar problem, even my mailman cuts through our yard, squeezing right next to our house and the swingset. I am getting a fence ASAP

If you don't want a fence, consider lots of flowers. Or, just put gravel down. Sharp pointy gravel. It'll keep the dogs out.

Try using an electrified fence... you could put flowers by it.... that should keep everyone off your lawn. Either that or you could convince the family to wear invisible fence collars and whenever they step on your lawn.... you could shock em.... behavior modification can be a wonderful thing. (I'm sure Pavlov had fun with his dogs.)
