So how did you like the movie? Do you think V was good or evil?
Would you've done the same?

I saw V for Vendetta. I like the movie to an extent, but Alan Moore's comic book vs. the movie. I have to pick Alan Moore. The way the comic book is written with the gritty coloring just shows how the 1980s comic books were so dark. Also as an Anarcho-Capitalist, I loved the comic book. In the comic book V sets farther a very anarchic view point. Even at one point he talks to this statue called justice and V says I have a mistress and her name is Anarchy. Its a classic comic book.

I think V is good. The government was tyrannical. Remember by Lockean social contract theory, people have the right to rebel against their government if the government has infringed upon their rights.

I would of done similar to V, but i am a pacifist so i might not of blown up parliament, but i wouldn't of stopped it either.

First of all it was not a cartoon, it was a limited series graphic novel by Alan Moore.

Secondly, I think he was a brilliant character. He was not the "hero" as he did not act in a "heroic" manner. If anyone was the hero of the film, it would be Evey. V was the "protagonist" as the film revolved around the character and his actions. What he did to Evey could not be conceived as heroic.

It should also be pointed out that he did not just kill willfully like many terrorist organisations do (and please note I said "many", not "all"). He killed people directly involved with the governments corruption, and directly involved in his history/condition - especially as the two were the same. He did set others up in positions where they could be killed, but was not directly involved in their deaths - only indirectly. Apart from that, he only destroyed buildings.

Faced with such a decision, I hope I would chose to do something to act, not turn my head away and ignore the situation.

By the way, did anyone else see the loophole? Evey's brother died from the virus, and her parents became political against the Party. Her parents got arrested and we see her mother being used as one of the human guinea-pigs in the laboratory where the Party invents the virus, then the Party uses the virus to get into power in the first place. Which came first - Virus or Party, chicken or egg?

yes I did dude, man I thought I was the only one hooked on the movie, but to answer your question yes V was evil because he killed and even destroyed a building with people all around and he did put the people of the quarantine in danger by bringing them close to the gate of Parliament too close to being killed. But if we want change than we need drastic change that is why we need to read 1984 novel the author escaped me but if you like V then this is like the explanation of what the story is to many people . So yes V is good, Violence can be used for good.

it was good...

I mean these are the ideas that America was founded on... revolution against a corrupt non-Representative government... it should resound with every American...

d_f_cornish: perhaps a time line of events in order would help you..

event 1: party releases virus
event 2: brother dies from virus
event 3: parents become activists
event 4: party becomes more hard core and kills activists

where is the confusion?

FANTASTIC MOVIE
V was good-willing to do anything for what he believes in, his cause was just. The only people he killed were those involved in the government corruption-a system that had left him physically (and probably mentally) damaged for life. He didn't harm anyone who didn't deserve it, and he allowed an entire country to see the corruption and stand up.

If i was as good at martial arts and knive throwing-hell yeah.

A+ Movie
A++++++++ Graphic Novel

It additionally serves a purpose to conceal his identity from his enemies i assume too.

Saw it and hated it. V is the same as the Uni-bomber and Timothy McVeigh. I would not have done the same.
