Do you say you are sorry, or just offer your support? Someone give me an example of what to say!

May the almighty give peace to the departed soul and give courage to the relative to suffer the loss! Why should I oo for that reason anyone say sorry? However, offering support warranting the situation within your purview could be considered.

This is what I would say:

"I'm so sorry for your loss. I know that nothing I can say will bring you comfort right now, but I wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to (come over or call)".

If you have lost someone yourself, you might want to add:
"I know what you are going through, that's why I know that no words will lessen your pain."

I'm sorry for your friends' loss.
