Most of them do not have planets.

No. Many stars have other stars around them, gas clouds, smaller particles and accretion disks (where planets form), and some have nothing. Younger (generation) stars are less likely to have planets because you need the elements blown away from the star in a supernova before planets are able to form from them.

We weren't aware of other stars having planets until just over a decade ago, since then we have found many planets. So while it doesn't seem solar systems are rare, they are not manditory.

No, I don't think so, as an astronomer student we did find one such system near a star in Pegasus also called Peg 51. All over we have found 21 stars which are woobling and not one of them is as complex as the earth. We found one such planet near Betelguese but according to our calculations it is 4 times the size of our Jupiter and should be as far as 220 million km away from it's star.
If you are really intersted why don't you come here in Amsterdam.

not all stars have planets, its about 70% with planets the other 30% are binary star systems, red giants or white dwarfs

I would guestimate that 95% of all stars have at least 1 planet.

of course not. 'do most stars have planets' would have been a better way to set that question into motion. i think all stars, against my better judgement, have planetlike accumulations of matter. only the stars that were set into motion with no 'wobble' would be symmetrically pure enough to entertain the possibility of having no kids (i mean no planets).

No, Jessica Simpson, Harrison Ford, Ben Afleck, Michael Bolton and many other stars do not have planets named after them. Oh wait, Michael Bolton doesn't count.

Do all planets have stars?

2006-08-08 16:44:10 · answer #8 · answered by David H 1 · 0 0

no most stars do not have planets and those that do have planets much like jupiter. very few have any even remotly close to earth. most starsystems are also binary meaning instead of one sun in the sky they have two, much like tatooine in star wars.

Its really hard to say yes but astronomers found out that some of the stars are having a planetary system like our own solar system.

No.
Only few planets have been discovered so far beyond the solar system
