didn't have pain meds or ANYTHING. Helps lots if you stay calm, concentrate and breathe and think of what tv shows you could be watching right now...

I have five children. The first two children I delivered with out any pain medications. It was painful, I got really tired, but I was able to do it. My first labor was really long though, and it was hard to push the baby out. I used the Lamaze method, and relied on my husband as my coach. I could have never ever done it without his help. The second two labors and deliveries I had an epidural. I highly reccomend this. The experience was painless, I was happy and talking to friends and family. I was relaxed, and the labors were shorter. The last two were very premature as well, and because of that, your body isn't really ready to deliver. The pain was nearly unbearable, so the epidural was a life saver to me. My fifth child I adopted from Russia, he is a sweetie pie. Everyone deals with pain differently than others. Each person's pain threshold is different as well. The pain medications they use today are really safe and effective. You want a healthy out come for your baby and yourself. I believe this is done first by educating yourself, and then making the decision that is best for you. You have nothing to prove. Labor and delivery is painful. There are ways to prevent that, why not be comfortable and at peace. It will be a wonderful experience, and you will be less apprehensive. Good luck.

I had natural childbirth 3 times and the 4th they had epidurals, so I went ahead and had one. They assured me that it wasn't harmful to the baby or mother, so I had one. I can't say I hated having children natural, because I took the classes. I suppose you could say I am pretty stubborn and had decided that I was in control of the pain, not the other way around. I believe the labor is shortened due to not having medication, so that is definately a plus. Also, I really believe the main question is what pain threshold you have. If you have a high pain tolerance, it will be much easier than for the woman that doesn't. Hope this helped answer your question....everyone is different.

I have four children. The first two I went totally natural without any pain meds. Yes the pain was very bad. I must have been crazy. The third I had a c-section and the last which was born this past january i had an epidural and it was wonderful. I have no idea why i didnt do that with the first two. Why deal with the pain if you dont have to. good luck to you.

I had a natural birth and I didn't "hate" it. It was difficult at times but I've actually felt worse pain than being in labor.
I also had an epidural with my last child. She was coming out with her body turned sideways so I was have very bad back labor to the point that I couldn't actually sit or lay down. The epidural just took the pain away but not the feeling so I knew when to push.
I think both were equally wonderful experiences because that moment they lay them on your chest you see why it's all worthwhile.

I didn't have any medication with either of mine. I was only 17 when I had my son and I figured I could handle it since I was young. If I did it without anything then I thought I could endure any amount of pain that came my way. My labor was only 3 hours long, but it was horrible because he was 8 lbs and I'm 5 foot small frame. I even ripped in two diff. places. My daughter I had when I was 19. Sure the pain from the first one sucked, but I did it and I could do it again! I did!!! It's so great once you get it over with. It gives you a bunch of self-confidence.

I had my first child without any meds and it wasn't bad at all. It hurt some, but it was so worth it. I was supposed to get meds but by the time I thought I really needed them it was too late. It was a quick labor though, and I'd do it again.

my first son i had an epidural because i had no urge to push... so they used forceps to deliver him... i had SUCH HORRIBLE headaches for WEEKS that i said i would never do that again (the pain med thing). it turns out i was one of the rare people that have a severe reaction. BUT, with my 3 younger children i had NO PAIN MEDS. i liked having no pain meds to help with the labor of my younger 3. when the delivery was done I FELT SUPER!

For my first baby I had 28 hours of labor with nothing. I will never forget it. I did not know that kind of pain existed. My hands were bleeding from biting them. Had a lot of back labor. My second son was born 10 months ago. I had a lot of drugs and I had an epidoral and I would have had a pitcher of margaritas if they allowed it. It was a piece of cake.

I had both my children without meds. The first one was fine. The second one I wanted some but she came so fast there was no time to give it to me. I'm pretty happy I did both without pain medication
