What did Clinton fix? You are living in a dream world. Clinton rode the wave of economic glory set up by Reagan. Clinton did nothing spectacular. Do you really think Clinton "fixed" anything? Please read a book, please, if not for yourself than at least for the good of society.

Well, bad news. You have been lied to for over 20 years. If you take into consideration all of the cost associated with purifying high octane gasoline, the cost would be a little over $5.00 per gallon. The government has been subsidizing the oil industry since Carter (actually before, but there is no solid proof).
The government has been cutting the oil subsidy to pay for the wars that we have been fighting. Did you happen to notice that your taxes haven't gone up... just down. Yep, we are not paying for the war. They are cutting the gasoline subsidy to pay for the war. Instead of sending government money to oil companies, they are sending the money to the military. Consider this, every time they announce that oil goes up a $1.00 a barrel, this translates to $0.02 a gallon increase. Then why does our price jump $0.30. No, it is not price gouging. Each month, the subsidy is decreased even more. Why isn't this public knowledge? If you don't know this, then they can blame someone else. Really, now just consider this... what industry did Bush work for before he joined politics? When you cut the subsidy, government regulation gets relaxed.
It is kind of like this....
Let's say Milk costs $2.00 in 2000. Your mom says that she will pay $1.50 so that you have more money to spend and save. Milk now costs you $0.50.
This continues until 2020. Milk now costs $3.50, but you are still paying $0.50. Your mom is now in trouble, your milk has cost more to her every year. She really needs the money... and I mean now. She cuts her part back to $1.50 (the original commitment she made). Now, milk costs you $1.50. Oh CRUD! That is triple what you planned to pay. Ahhh! Scream it is unfair.
The United States still pays less for gasoline than any other developed nation on Earth. You may not think so, but you really pay about half of what the gasoline costs the industry.
(Whoa, and "damned fan" is extremely wrong! Oil refineries are constantly being built. There is an oil refinery less than 10 years old 5 miles from my home in Indiana.)

Im sure Hybrids will surge only from Consumer demands due to sky rocketing gas prices, cause otherwise it would serve a quick death like its electric brother.
If you think about the fact that Iran holds the world's supply of petrolium, and they have a chance to win this war (and if they loose, Israel becomes the owner of the supply) we are pretty screwd. Better get some better ideas on energy saving....

I think the economy in the US and the world will collapse and we will regress, as a cibilization, back to about 1900. No on realizes all the things that come from petroleum that we will no longer be able to afford.
Hybrids don't work without a cheap source of Hydrogen for the fuel cells (comes from petroleum). Batteries only last a couple of years.

they wont allow alternate energy cars to become mainstream probably for another decade or two because the govt and everybody else is making too much money on gasoline sales... in fact, the economy would collapse if that happened ...the truth of the matter is the prices will continue to rise at whatever the market can bear ... inflation watever jiberish economic formulas they use ... i would say 4$ in another year or so with the minimum wage increase .....

I honestly don't think much will change. The price will rise higher and higher as long as we put up with it and continue to pay it.
