Look for ideas.

You have a textbook, follow the outline. Look at the index and see the terms that are commonly used. Do you know what they mean? Look them up if you don't. Follow the pattern of the titles, then follow the pattern of the section titles. Then look for the major points. Do you understand the illustrations? Every bullet list, do you remember the items? Bolded words and glossary items. Now compare that to what the teacher talks about and demonstrates in class. The textbook is a foundation, the teacher is fleshing out what he or she wants you to focus on.

Now, go through the notes and pertinent textbook pages (the teacher may specify a different order, possibly omitting things and you should follow that lead), then ask yourself, if the teacher were going to test me on this what would be asked and how would I answer.

If you look at what the teacher was talking about and compare it to what the textbook is describing and you are familiar with the terms, you will probably be better prepared. A few days will work some good, but doing it consistently over the term of the class is better. Good luck.

Set out a time to study, and then DO IT. you cannot wait to just feel like studying because face it, you probably won't ever feel like it. When you are studying it may help to play some music or have a tv going or get a snack to eat if it is a boring subject. If it is a harder subject turn down the distractions. When you are studying TAKE NOTES it really does help. You remember things better if you write them down. You can write down all of the important terms and their definitions and then just summarize the chapter in your own words. Usually textbooks have questions at the end of the chapter and you can answer those for practice. It will help to organize all of the facts in your head. Then before you take an exam look over all of the stuff that you have written to refresh it.

CONCENTRATE!

Do not look away from what you are doing. That is a mistake I make. I let little things grab my attention and I never study good. Also, the subject I am studying needs to be amusing to me. I hate the boring ones.

cliffs notes hehe J/K! Ummm how about annotating your books you read, take good notes, review-re-read and think about the 5 W's when reading a story. Always read the summaries. Listen attentively and watch movies on the subjects. Hope that helps!
