I'm dyslexic, agnostic, half Chinese and half Indian decent, hips the size of panama canal, poor background, straightforward, speak my mind AND gay.
got beaten up more than a few times for just being myself .....
bigots will always be bigots babe.....
no matter how hard we try to gain recognition through our achievements, we will always be discriminated against! they will find new and innovative ways to discriminate against us. so no point in trying to change them, might as well just increase our immune systems against ignorant ar$e$.
but hope is still eternal that some scientists somewhere would come up with a "cure" to cure them of their homophobia cuz we are here to stay! lets see what they have got to say about the "cure" by then......
regards.

This question is really interesting. My experience as an african-american lesbian has been that discrimination came from many sources. My biggest surprise (well not that big of a surprise) was how much white gays discriminated against me. Particularly at clubs or parties and things that they would say with the same ignorance that a straight, white person would. They hate to admit this too b/c they are so into obtaining basic human rights. They tend to not want to recognize their own internal racism that is within the gay community itself. Sorry just had to get that off my chest. So I guess it doesn't matter, people will find something no matter what.

Well, when I was just a wee lad, I was teased for having red hair, curly hair, & freckles. Then I guess puberty visited me first, so suddenly I was the best athlete in grade school. Next I was picked on for being "brainy", but I ended up with having an IQ larger than my shoe size, so that, too, worked itself out. Then I was raised in the city, (St. Louis), and was taught to be open-minded and respectful of other people, moved to rural Missouri and am discriminated against for simply being a Democrat. Well, you will never fit this round peg into that square hole, and finally the gay thing... When it seems like most of the USA wants to brush us under the carpet, we will NOT go away. If they want to keep the Constitution as "the law of the land" they will have to actually read it... and where it says that "all men are created equal", I think the Supreme Court will have to decide that we have the right to marry our partners, as well. One day, in the not too distant future, people will sit back and shiver in horror at the way we've been treated... the way that they shiver at the Nazis for their treatment of Jews, and the way the KKK feels about peoples of color. It all comes down to hate, and hate is NOT okay against anyone. I hope that I have not offended you, and I thank you for your question. It's questions like yours that get people thinking....

poor white trash kid from the projects.... That how I started off....
Needless to say, I didn't fit in anywhere... I was the only white kid that lived there.... The black guys would mess with me because I was white, and the white kids I went to school with wanted nothing to do with me because I was from the projects... Don't get me wrong, I had a few cool friends that didn't give a **** about the color of my skin or where my address was!
Now, I'm 35 y/o... 7 yrs ago I made some pretty good moves and ended up making sh*t loads of cash. (legally)
I find that people treat you alot differently when you have money... It is almost stupid! some treat you like royalty and some treat you as if you are a monster!
I have adopted my own philosophy....
I call it the "feed me, *** me rule"
All in all the rule states that you only take to heart the opinions of those who are responsible for your livelihood and that of the person you are sleeping with....
Oh, by the way.... I'm not gay.
Peace

well. i'm not gay. i'm also white. i'm not "poor" per se, but i am living with my parents as i work my *** off to pay my own way through college. i'm a fairly decent person, and am going to school to be a counselor. i've been told by a lot of people that i'm really nice and funny and that i have a great sense of humor. ironically, this is why some people hate me. some people are jealous of the fact that i know who i am and where i'm going in life, so they still try to belittle me and talk about me behind my back. basically what i'm saying is, even if there is no reason to be discriminated against (which i think there are no plausible reasons), people will still discriminate. so congrats to you for knowing who you are and not being ashamed to say it. and screw anyone who says any different :)

Mexicans are now being discriminated against also. What people do not realize that more then 40% of the people here in the united states illegally are people from other countries who have overstayed their visa's. But the Mexicans are the ones you hear about on the news. I had to do a term paper for English this summer on immigration and found information from a reliable source through a scholarly search through my schools virtual library

Someone should tell His Divine Shadow that being a victim is hard to avoid when you're victimized practically every day in almost every aspect of life. Discrimination isn't just a buzzword... it's an almost constant metaphorical punch in the metaphorical face.
I saw another answer that I agree with. It was concise and accurate. People will always find something to object to, oppress, discriminate against, hate, fear, etc. If it wasn't homosexuality, it would be (insert here).

i do not have a perfect body. no matter what i do i cant be thin, people want thin people.
i am dyslexic and people think i am stupid sometimes until they get to know me. i am actually slightly above average
i talk too loud sometimes
in my home town we were the 'poor family' well not the poorest. but of the family that stuck it out in school people looked down on us because we were a big family and people felt sorry for us.
i have a mental illness that imapcts me although i still hold down a good job. nobody at work knows how serious it is or i would be the talk of the town. only 2 people know i even have any issues at all.
people always have a reason to hate.

Wow, you sound like a delightful lady and I agree with your perceptions. I don't understand your pride in being gay. I am white, male and 63, it's a fact but I'm neither proud of it nor do I attach any other emotion to it. It just is, like it is sometimes raining, I'm not proud of rain, it just is.
You are correct in believing that some people will hate you or look condescendingly upon you for one reason or another to make themselves feel better. For example, I look down on people who purchase $40,000.00 motorcycles that can barely be ridden. These folks are wealthy moto-posers who do not understand the mechanical properties of motorcycles. I value skilled fabricators of custom and performance parts and hold them in high esteem. It's what I like and value. Posers value appearances, the glossy outer shell that means nothing to me.
Some value money above all else and the trappings that demonstrate great wealth. I believe in a 100% inheritance tax to give more people an opportunity to become educated and contribute to our country.
That's just me. Just my values.
We express our values at the polls. Vote your values.
