Well it depends on what you are talking about. We as human being seem to be rather constant, or it is that we are always here, but will not necessiarily always be here. We are variables in various situations including how we interact with the environment and what we do. So I would have to say that a human is both a constant and a variable.

with respect to the world we are mere variables, but with respect to change, we are as constant as can be...
it is an accepted fact that life has to end... in this manner, we are mere variables that can be replace at any given time... nothing can escape it and we all are indeed indispensable. varying thru time and space, along courses of life, results of decisions; we might be known as mere puppets on a string.
on the other hand, we are also constants... we witness the birth of technology, the evolution of reasons, the introduction of life, the changing world....
i'd say we are both.... one within the other....

We are constantly variable and variably constant. We adapt ourselves to fit our environment, both social and physical, and we shape our environment on social and physical layers to suit us. we change and stay the same constantly but variating on the amount of constant change constantly.

Methinks we're about as variable as it gets, don't you? Or was that just a moot question?
