I repeat an answer I gave some time ago... May be it would work for you too !
There is a sleep centre in the mind which gets activated by itself in most people at a time set by the biological clock in our body. In some cases, the 'activation' needs support. How to do it is the problem. Mind activity retards sleep. So, just try watching your thoughts without getting stuck to it. Do some deep breathing, with slow exhalation, at the same time relaxing the body consciously. It should help.

Is this an occasional problem or every night?
The first thing you need to do for healthy sleep is get on a schedule where you go to sleep and wake up at close to the same times every day.
If this is a problem for you most of the time, or it causes you to be sleepy during the day, ask your doctor to refer you to a sleep specialist- there may be an underlying sleep disorder.

If you are tossing and turning and just cannot fall asleep...get up.
Go turn on the TV...go read a book...just get out of bed.
A glass of Brandy perhaps, or a glass of wine...the alcohol will help relax you. Open a window or take a walk out to the patio and take in a few breaths of fresh air.
Pretty soon, you'll feel tired and be able to drift off to sweet slumber.

first, stay away from heavy foods right before you go to sleep, drink a herbal tea with calm effects...also, make sure you're very comfortable in your bead, and be warm, because warmth makes you cozy and sleepy. Then relax...concentrate on something calm that makes you feel very happy in a peaceful way, and inhale very slowly through your nose. then hold it as long as it makes you feel comfortable, and exhale through your mouth. do it continuously, and don't let other thoughts interrupt your peaceful mind...you'll see that you'll fall asleep soon...sweet dreams!

Excercise in the early morning and eat healthy foods! Also drink a lot of water! It will make you feel better throughout the whole day I promise! But I doubt you will do it!

when I can not fall asleep, I will read a book in bed with a low light, that always helps. Or I watch TV in my bed with the lights off, that is another sure way of helping you fall asleep. Good luck.

Lye in bed, with your eyes open not closed. When your trying to stay awake is when you get tired. I hate trying to sleep and you can't, tossing and turning for hours!!!!!!!!! argh!
Seriously, try and stay awake, but not watching tv or something, just....in your dark room. Alone. With your eyes open, not looking at anything. Your mind will race for a while, but you'll get tired.
