I had this EXACT same thing happen to me. I just installed the newest version of Java and it seems to work just fine now.

Yes, you need to update your Java or allow it in your browser.

Get a firewall on that computer, and not just Microsoft's. I use ZoneAlarm

Get at least two spyware scanners if you're an Internet Explorer user, and the same number of virus scanners. Ad-aware, spybot, avg.... there's lots out there.

Clean off the crap that comes on the computer - the "try me"s and stuff you'll never use.

Download Firefox and install Adblock Plus - no more banner ads, no more pop ups, faster, safer, easier, more customizable.

Poke around on the Firefox extensions site... it's amazing what you can do now that you're out of IE's shackles.

Pick out a couple nice Themes...

Then defrag your hard drive.

Just install Java... I think their web site is www.java.com if not just type into the search engine
