The sign can have many reasons. First and foremost is to let people know that a baby is in the car and therefore drivers should take extra car while driving. Another reason could be as a deterrent to car jackers. People think twice about stealing a car when a baby or child is aboard.
It could also be an alert to police, firemen, and ambulance workers that there is possibly a baby in the car.
As for bragging, Why not? Some people wait for years to have a child and are very proud of the fact!
I think it says something about our society when people think that others would put up a baby sticker so that their baby could be kidnapped or use it as an excuse to drive badly. I think your thinking might be a little twisted.

First of all, B is a total retard. But it's for those people who aren't heartless to read and be warned that if they hit that car, they'll likely kill the baby. Amazingly, and I think B and all the others who say it's a useless thing for "pride" may need to hear this, babies are smaller than your average driver, in fact, in the US, there has never been a driver the size of your typical baby. Becasue of their small size, babies have a much higher risk of being seriously injured in an accident. Even with car seats, infants are at risk more than any other passenger in a car. So yeah, some parents keep it on there maybe a bit to long, or are just glad to be parents and feel like sharing it. But seriously is there anything wrong with that? This is a nation that fell in love with the stick on Garfields. But yeah, it is mainly used to warn drivers you'llbe responsible for a baby's death if you **** around near this car.

if i have an accident and my baby is in the car then i want the fire-police to know this. there are people that have signs on their houses that show that they want their pets saved in case of a fire. same thing here but on a car. now if someone is stating i have a baby and get out of my way then they are just obnoxious so pay them no mind.

THEY'RE trying to make sure you drive carefully...I think. But I always thought it was a silly thing to say...I just mean that all drivers should be careful all the time and not just because of some stranger's kid.

Its a meaningless sticker that "soccer mommies" put on their mini vans because they want attention. Perhaps little dalton will learn his lesson from time out because god forbid we spank our children to teach them right from wrong because thats child abuse.
