HAVE FUN!!!!!! it is the only year you can take it easy and get all A's at the same time. definitely dont blow it off...b/c you gotta keep a good gpa...but have fun! go to the football games and homecoming and all that. its easy to make friends...just be approachable...people will come to you. dont be nervous...i promise most people wont pick on you because youre a freshman. no its not possible to stay on everyone's good side...but definitely try. HIGH SCHOOL WILL BE THE BEST TIME OF YOUR LIFE. I MISS IT!

My first day of highschool, I was pretty scared because at my school they did really harsh initiations where they basically kick yer @ss all through 9th grade. However, luckily no one picked on me, though I did see a lot of kids get hit with eggs, and a few kids got duct taped to poles around the neighbourhood.

Anyways, 9th and 10th grades are really easy. 11th and 12th grades are kind of hard. There is a lot more homework than in Junior High and big heavy textbooks to carry which sucks.

The best way to make friends is to stick with the group of friends you already have and then build on it by meeting new people. If you're new to the school and don't know anybody yet, go downtown and hang out and make some friends your age before school starts so you will have people to hang out with once you get there.

There is really no need to be nervous, unless you live in a rough neighbourhood and the kids have a lot of weapons. But even then, it shouldn't be a problem because they probably won't attack you without a reason. So, just be respectful of everyone.

My best advice is safety in numbers. If you have a big pack of friends around you, then bullies are less likely to single you out.

Basically, highschool is whatever you want it to be. If you want to be a lone wolf and just go to class, then go home, you can.

If you want to be involved in the school, there are clubs and teams.

If you want to just party the whole time, and go when you feel like it, it is possible, but you can expect some harsh consequences!

Anyways, that is the best I can do. Good luck!

Just be yourself. Join sports, clubs, or band to meet other people with your interests. Don't be afraid to have your own opinion. Make good grades from the start so it is easier to get into college/eventually have the career of your choice. Have an open mind. Don't let the little things get you down. Enjoy being in high school because you will eventually look back on these days and call them the "good old days" when you are older. You are in a better position than those entering high school when I did since everyone can use the Internet and society is more global etc. I should know I started high school in 1990 and if I could go back in time and do anything differently I would have not stressed so much on the little things, kept in touch with more people, and enjoyed life more! Good luck!!!

Expect a lot of homework. But also a lot more freedom. To make friends at school, get involved with sports or other activites you enjoy at school. Exchange phone numbers with people in your classes so you can study together.
Lots of new high school students are nervous for the same reasons. Stay on everyone's good side by not talking bad about anyone and have a good sense of humor.
Good Luck! By the way High school is not the best years of your life- It's just the beginning of the best years- it gets even better when you get out.

Expect the unexpected. I'm not kidding! High school isn't really different from middle school as far as making friends and such. All you really have to do is try to meet people. On the first day, everyone is nervous. So, all you have to do is approach people. It isn't that hard (depending on your schedule), and you should not be nervous. Being nervous is natural, but it just makes you scared over nothing. Also, it is not possible to stay on everyone's good side. People will always be judgmental, but as long as you are confident and stick close to your friends, people won't bother you.

Here are some tips that I have given to some of the people on Yahoo who are nervous about high school:

-Just make sure you have some pens/pencils and some paper.
-Also, make sure to get to the campus early to check it out, and if you have friends who are attending the same school, call them up and agree on a place to meet up before you go in.
-Grades are important. Don't ignore them because you think that they don't matter...they do!! High school is the pre-cursor to college and the real world. So try hard and get good grades.
-Just be polite and charming and you'll do fine!!
-Make good friends with all of your teachers and the deans!!
-Get involved!!! The best thing about high school is looking back at how much you did and how much you stood out!! Join any club that you like, and make it fun!!

I remember my first year of High school. I was pretty nervous to. I would suggest joining clubs and being involved. High school is a lot more fun when you get involved. if you don't like sports, which I never did then you could join clubs like "Key Club". Getting involved in your school is an excellent way to make new friends. It is NOT possible to have everyone like you, no matter how nice you are. There will always be people that want to see you fall but you should ignore these people. Don't be nervous, high school is much better than middle school. I remeber being nervous my freshman year but I got used to it with a week or so. If your going to a public high school, then your freshman year should be a piece of cake.
Most importantly, MAKE SURE YOU GET GOOD GRADES.
This will defienetly pay off when it comes time to fill out scholorship applications and college applications. Colleges love someone who is active in school and has good grades!
I'm sure you'll love it, it takes some getting used to though;-)

High school is only four years. Your friends there generally aren't going to get you into college or get you a job after graduation, so keep your nose clean and study. It's your life you are preparing for, after all. It really doesn't matter who you are there, you can go on to college and leave all that behind. High school is just a spot on a job application and a line or two on a resume`. Be sure to make a few memories, but try not to make history yet. Save that for later.

hey don't ask me, i'm doing the same. but i guess i can try and help....the best way to make friends is be funny or comment on things. i don't think it's possible to be on everyone's good side, you can't make everyone happy. just be yourself!
