I learnt about the American War of Independence and the Civil War. I even had a set of Union and Confederate toy soldiers. Everybody learns about the Indian Wars, Custer's last stand and he Wild west. I also learnt about WWI and WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

Well 30 yrs ago I learned a little about the War of Independence and the Civil War but not much else.

Last year my niece was also doing quite a lengthy study of the Depression from a US viewpoint.

WWII is presented as a largely European conflict, Britain standing alone until the US came in, later, and joined in the final assault on the Nazis. I don't remember dealing with the war in the Pacific at all.

I suspect both the US and the UK massively underplay the major role played by the USSR

British kids learn a lot more about American history than American students learn about British history.
WWII figures much bigger in the British experience, because SO MANY civilians died in the blitz and rationing continued in the 1950s.

Of course...just the same that could be said for the reverse in American schools. However, the point of view is different. Since we were both on the same side in WWII, I suspect that it's not all that much different.

Yes they do. It has been my experience that they have a facination with American Indians and know a lot about our systems of government and are up on current events.
