I've got an interview coming up that I'm very excited about--I'm graduating on Thursday and this will be my first professional job ever, straight out of college. The only problem is that I have a low GPA, one that I do not put on my resume--I know, I should have gotten better grades, but that's a moot point now. If they ask for my transcripts, GPA, etc., how should I respond? I believe that my writing portfolio and experience will help me out greatly, but I'm at a loss about how to field questions regarding my GPA, if they're asked. I'm scared! Has anyone else been in this situation, and if so, what did YOU say?

I've been on about a million interviews and I think I have only been asked about my GPA once. I gave a vague answer which seemed good enough.

GPA is only really important if you are planning to go to graduate school. It has no bearing on your ability to perform in the workplace. If it comes up, you can offer a general answer like "In the 2s".

If they press you on this you can explain that you never planned to attend graduate school and felt you did not need to maintain a stellar GPA. You can also explain that you were involved in a bunch of other activities that distracted you from getting great grades, but has definitely helped you become a more well-rounded person ready for the tough challenges of the modern work environment.

Be creative and you should easily find a way to create a positive out of a perceived negative through a carefully crafted answer. Also, I have never had anyone ask for a transcript and would never offer one. Good luck with your new job.

At many companies your GPA will not matter nearly as much as your experience and skill. You will really need to emphasize and demonstrate your ability with your portfolio. I would not make excuses for the GPA or blame teachers. Your teacher after all is similar to your boss in a work setting, and blaming the boss is not impressive to employers. I would just give your honest reason why you think you did not perform as well as you might have and then try to show what you did well. Best wishes

TRUST ME!!!! The employer could care less about your GPA! And that's the truth. All your employer will care about is that you had the loyalty and dedication to finish college. It speaks volumes about you. Now, you just have to nail the interview and discuss your great qualities like your writing and experiences. I have never been on an interview and had an employer ask me about my GPA from college and grad. school. You will be fine. Good luck.

i do no longer recommend to respond to a query with a query, yet, what's it you must attain in grad college? in case you get in (and there is probable a school someplace you will get into) grad college, are you extremely prepared to make the sacrifice of the rate and time mandatory to benefit which will bring about you getting out of it what somebody observing your resume 2 or 3 years from now expects you to comprehend. If there is something worse than a bogus resume, it extremely is a few with a bogus guidance.

Work on presenting yourself well in the interview and the GPA will not matter.
