This is generally the result of a bacteria infection. Often caused by over feeding, and/or poor water quality. You need to keep his water clean, add 1 teaspoon of table per 2.5 gallons, and use an antibotic.

As popeye is often a secondary infection cause by other far worse conditions. Popeye often leads to dropsy. I'd really reccommend using a broadspectrum antibotic.

Reccomended treatment
-Gel-Tek Ultra Cure BX (trisulfa, and nitrofurazone)
-Any Trisulfa medication (IE Mardel Trisulfa)
-Maracyn Plus
-The combination of Maracyn-TC and Maracyn
-The combination of Maracyn2 and Maracyn

He might have a condition called pop-eye. There are medications sold at your local pet store for this aliment. You can look up pop-eye fish care on the net. Good luck!

I think that this is caused by an infection. You can get anti-biotics at the pet store. I recall using tetracycline for this, I think. You also want to change 25% of your water on a regular basis. Here is a site that has some further answers.

Go to petco or some other pet shop near you and ask them what's wrong, if they say that they don't know, than next time you go bring the fish in a small and clean container and have them take a look at him/her.

bacterial infection. Is he by himself? Are you keeping his water clean and declorinated? Go get some meds for the infection, follow instructions carefully and do not overdose. Wallmart carries some meds for fish

I tried the meds for mine when this happened. I ended up euthanizing him. I put him in a small tupperware with 2 Alka Seltzer. There is a numbing agent in it and they suffocate quickly feeling no pain.
Freezing is also an option. In a baggie with a tiny amount of water.
Two words, Garbage Disposal. Gruesome, but fast.
