I go downtown all the time for school and the majority of people don't even bother to acknowledge the homeless. They don't look at them and they go out of their way to avoid them entirely....it's sad becuase you wonder how bad their life must have gotten to be put in the situation that their in. Honestly, I don't talk to them but I do give them money from time to time. Your braver than me. Maybe that is all that they need....someone to notice them. Homeless people have a tendency to have mental disorders so my answer applies to the second question as well.

Wow, that's the most interesting thing I've heard all day, because... because I also like to talk to homeless and crazy people! Your use of the word "mental" when referring to crazy people actually amuses me. 0_0. I don't know why.

Anyway, of course its ok, why not? Like everyone else said, it's a sign of a compassionate personality; just by talking to these people, your helping them a little....just be careful when talking to a mental person, in some cases their free will has been impaired by their disability, and they might try to attack you.

Yes, why shouldn't that be ok? These are human beings as well, who feel pain and joy, and sometimes just a little smile can make their days brighter in a sad outlook. I think you are doing a very compassionate thing.

You might just be a social worker/ psychologist by nature. It's probably your human side coming out, wanting to explore the mysteries of the human condition.

I like to talk to them, too. I hope and think it's compassionate. They are also interesting in both usual and unusual ways.

Yes it's okay. It's actually a special gift which takes talent and true compassion and definite understanding. Few people can do it. But they're always the special ones. :)

I talk AT them.

Things like;
"No, I don't have a quarter."
"No pan handling in the store."
"That's not your food. Get away from that table."
"No sleeping in the bathroom."
"You cannot have a refund on food that was bought for you."
