I hate to say it, but I wouldn't listen to any of the advice you've been given so far.

You don't have to use a DVD disc, and there's no such thing as CD+R. First of all, make sure your VCD has an MPEG folder with a *.DAT file within it. Make sure Windows Media Player can read this file. If so, you're in business.

Next, try copying it to a CD-RW disc instead of a regular CD-R. The reason is that although most DVD players support VCDs, some older ones are picky about the type of disc. CD-RW (rewritable) has a different kind of reflectivity similar to a DVD. My old Sony DVD player bought back in 2000 had this same problem, and it took a CD-RW to fix it.

Also, realize that you can make more elaborate menus by making a DVD instead...

I am going to assume you have a DVD Burner. Try changing media and burn it to a CD+R. Also some DVD players cannot read CD-R disc, you have to look at your DVD player guide. Many of them cannot read RWs by the way. Also you have to make sure that once you burn the project to CDR, that the project is CLOSED (Finalized). A DVD Player, CD Player that is not connected to your computer, will not read a non-closed/finalize disc. The program you are using to burn the CDR disc should have an option to either close or finalize the disc. I hope this helps.

Seriously, trying to compress a movie onto a cd-r is probably more trouble than it is worth! This can get complicated , trying to convert files , having the right software to do what you want to do , loss of picture quality and not to mention the length of time it takes to convert! I tried it and is not worth the headache and wait! Stick with dvd-r/+r and make life much easier on yourself. I know they cost more , but buy them only when they are on sale. Officemax and staples have good ones all the time!

What was the original format of the movie?
What are you using to convert?
What CD burning software are you using?

You need a DVDRW not a CDRW...it is a completely different format.
