Cool question. I think the most obvious answer you're going to get is Jim Morrison of The Doors. For more contemporary vocalists, it's a little difficult, considering all the skreetchy-scratchy voices out there. I think that the best contemporary comparison, and I'm sure to catch some flack for this, is Glen Danzig... same baritone voice, same dark, gothic romanticism, just on a different platform
