Nymphomaniac means someone who's obsessed with sex ... YOU for example!

Nymph doesn't apply to you though - a married woman who's had 4 kids could NEVER be described as a nymph - so anyone who called you that thinks you're a slapper ... not surprising considering your questions!

Calling you a nymph (if the people were literate) could be a complement, because in Greek & Roman Mythology nymphs were any of numerous minor deities represented as beautiful maidens inhabiting and sometimes personifying features of nature such as trees, waters, and mountains.

But as you guessed, they probably ment nymphomaniac, who is any woman who wants more sex then those men are able to provide. Sounds like their problem, not yours.

There's more than one meaning of "nymph", but in slang it's short for nymphomaniac, which is someone (usually a woman) who is addicted to sex; has an insatiable desire; can't be satisfied. The way a lot of people use it, however, it's a replacement for "s l u t". Follow the first two links I put under sources to read more.

The original meaning is from Greek Mythology. See the 3rd link I put under "Sources".

A nymph is actually a minor goddess that is personified as natural things...ex. tree, hill, stream. They are always beautiful maidens. I suppose you would call a person a nymph if you think they are beautiful. Or you could always use the slang version and use it to describe a person that needs to have sex ALL the time.

nymphs were female nature figures (not goddesses, more like sprites) in Greek mythology. They were usually lovely and often played hard to get.

Nowadays, people use nymph to refer to a sexy young woman; nymphette would be a young teenager.

"Nympho" is the common nickname for a nymphomaniac.

A nymph is a fairy.

Who knows why people call other people fairies? Maybe you should ask them the next time you hear it.

A nymphO refers to "nymphomaniac" which is a sex addict, loosely. No pun intended.
