I am due to start my period on Thursday, but I got a positive reading on an ovulation test. Is it possible to ovulate that soon before a period is expected?

Yes you can ovulate 2 days before your period but the chances are 3%, in order to get pregnant you should have sex a couple days before you ovulate so the sperm has time to meet the egg, since sperm can live up to 72 hrs inside the women. The ovulation tests usually only tell you when your ovulating , not right before when you should have sex to get the right timing, the best way to do this is take your temp. everyday after your period, and when your temp. goes up 2 degrees that's when its time to conceive.
Testing your cervical mucus also helps , when its the right time you will find stretchy mucus , your cervix will be high and open

Yes, ovulation tests also detect HCG,so you could be pregnant! Or, your body could be way out of whack this month and you are ovulating much later. Did you get a positive ovulation test a few weeks ago during the middle of the cycle?

I conceived my baby daughter the day after my period ended, so the answer is yes. The ovulation test will also be positive if you are already pregnant.

I have been taking ovulation tests for the past 3 months. I have taken them before when we were going to a fertility clinic to get pregnant with my daughter and they do work to tell you when the best time to get pg is because it worked with her. I've been taking the ones that tell you your 4 most fertile days. The first 2 are just high fertility with your 3rd being max and stays on for 2 days. Last month I got ovulation on 13, 14, and max on 15&16. I started my period on the 19th which means it was only 3 days after my ovulation. This month I got Ovulation on 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th but it still didn't stay on indicating I'm on my max fertile day and I started my period today. Today is the 6th but I had a confirmed ovulation test this morning. Since I'm still ovulating on the day I started my period I would say you can definitely ovulate 2 days before expected period although it would still leave both of us very unlikely to conceive without fertility help. That's why I will be going back to my specialist at the end of this month.

It only took one time for us to get pregnant with our first child. The second time took seven months because I kept calculating the regular ovulation cycle. Until I used an ovulation test, and it marked me very close to my period, like you. Then BAM! new baby in the oven! Go for your new bundle and good luck!
