i used to be like that. well lets be honest i am like that. Untill i get to know someone im usually pretty quiet. But let me tell you what i try to do. I compliment people on their shirt or their shoes and then ill say something about the class or the teacher, and that gets a conversation going. But never put down someone to start a conversation!!! It will not help you in the end!!!!! Hope i helped!!!

The easiest way to start conversations is to begin with a genuine hello, good morning, or some other greeting. Speak with confidence, and joy in your heart. Also have a smile on your face to show friendliness and confidence. Hold your head up high, and think positive. Mark Fisher, Joe Goodwin, and Larry Shay wrote, "When you're smiling, the whole world smiles with you."

Just say hello to everyone you pass by. And to those who you want to know better, just say hello and start talking about a class you are in together or a teacher, or if they have any good or bad experiences with a particular teacher.
Another thing, talk to a teacher and see if there is an afterschool curriculum you like to participate in.

If it's a girl, compliment her on something. Ask her where she bought it, where she gets her hair done, etc...perhaps ask her if she's had any of the teachers you're going to have and which ones are harder, give more homework, give a lot of notes...keep the questions going...
If it's a guy, ask him where one of your classes are and maybe he will show you how to get there. Then keep asking him open ended questions to get him to tell you more about himself. (guys love this) It will give you a chance to pinpoint some mutual interests.
Have a great time back at school!

Just walk up to a group or an individual and say, "Hey how ya doing"? The conversation can go forward from there.

Find something you have in common. Same hobbies. Same classes. Locker in the same hall. Ride the same bus.
