If it is just one eye, it is probably "Pink Eye" or conjunctivitis. It is very common, and people get it all the time. Keep your hands clean and don't rub your eyes as it is highly contagious. He needs to see a doc to get some eye drops with antibiotics in them and he will be fine. If it is both eyes, he could have allergies, and when whatever goes away that is bothering him, he will be fine.
Either way, he should see a doc to get some relief.

He might have had an allergic reaction to something,or he may have gotten bitten by something. Clean it out to make sure there is nothing causing the inflammation inside the eye. Have him take some benadryl after he cleaned it. Also check for a small little bumps, it also could very well be a stye, but usually they don't cause a great ammount of inflammation. If it is caused by an allergy or bite, the benadryl will help it a lot.

If it suddenly appears then it might be a case of conjunctivitis. But if it is for long time, you must consult an eye specialist. Conjunctivitis generally subsides within one week if proper medication is taken.Eye is a sensitive and value able organ so it is wise to consult Doctor. O.K

There's no reason to be too upset, he just needs to see a doctor or an opthamologist to see what's wrong. It could be something as simple to treat as conjunctavitis but of course I have no way of knowing.
Just make sure he goes to his doctor or to an emergency room if it seems very serious. I'm sure everything will be fine.

it could be pink eye, which is an infection, but my advice to you is to take him to the emergency room and have a doctor check it out. We only have 2 eyes, and they are not things to mess with. Let a professional take care of it. Hope he is not in any pain

It may be "pink eye" or "iritis" - two highly contagious conditions. Get him to a doctor. The doctor will prescribe eyedrops. Meantime, wash your hands after touching him, with hot water and soap, and don't touch your hands to your eyes.
