Absolutely..Nothing tastes better than what you grow yourself. And potpourri seems better if you grow the flowers and herbs. I have right now an herb garden with basil (4 varieties,21 plants), rosemary (2 varieties), mint (6 varieties), lemon balm, parsley, chives, garlic chives, thyme (3 varieties), chamomile, malobar spinach, stone pines (you get pine nuts from them), sage.
I have a vegetable garden I grow tomatoes, tomatillos, corn, lots of different kinds of hot and sweet peppers, cucumbers, gourds, cantaloupes, watermelons, squash-6 kinds, collard and turnip greens. Corn right of the stalk is so good you dont even have to cook it.
I have flowers all over the place(i like companion planting) like marigolds, wildflowers, ruella, 4 oclocks, lantana, alyssum, and sunflowers, etc.
I have a garden just for the birds planted with a big dead branch in the middle where passionflower, hyacinth bean and trumpet vines climb up it. In the bed are hummingbird flower and lantana and blackeye peas.
I have a cactus garden in the front with lots of rocks as the border and ammonites (giant fossil shell rocks) throughout with aloes planted in the middle of the ammonites. In there is also moss rose and sedum and prickly pear and an unusual cactus that has no spines but looks like a prickly pear.
In the back are my dogs so not much but a gardenia bush and birdhouse gourds growing up the fence.
I think thats all but lets not even discuss the houseplants...

I love gardening. It is so rewarding, relaxing and a job where you can enjoy the fruits of your labors (not like housework). It is a thrill to see each plant grow. They seem to develop their own personality. I talk to them particulary as they are being planted to let them know they will be loved and cared for and I'm careful to plant them where they will have companionship with other plants. They all seem to get along very well.

I plant anything that will grow in S.Florida and attract birds and butterflys. The birds, squirrels, butterflies and my four toy poodles seem to have a wonderful life together. They all enjoy each other and they are soooo much fun to watch.

I love gardening, it is one of the most relaxing while rewarding things that I do. Just the feel of the fresh turn sod, and watching it grow, satifies my inner spirit. Watching the results of my hard work is another benefit of gardening.

Here in the tropics, I wished I could grow those pretty annuals and perennials here but its too warm and humid.

Therefore I take my revenge on growing various types of orchids, they grow well under the shade.
Besides that I grow asian herbs like curry leaves, kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, screwpine leaves, vietnamese basil, coriander leaves, Chinese parsley, ferns and my beloved sweet williams that grew tolerant to heat over time.

I love to garden. It's just so fun. But one plant I grew died. It was
a California Wildflower. My favorite types of plants are orchids,
gladiuses, and lilies.
