There are TONS of other appropriate study... However, no other book holds as much value... PERIOD.
And the truth there is not just the 1+1=2 kind... It's the ALL-IMPORTANT life application kind that's so needed (and all-too ignored) in today's world... The Apochrypha (additional Catholic books you've mentioned) were rejected as Scripture centuries ago...

Many historical books back up the things that are written in the Bible. But many books are written in to reflect that persons views and beliefs which may not be the truth. The Bible is clear that anyone who adds to the word even one line over a word or dot or takes away from the word is in danger of Hell. Many religions have "bibles" that they say go with the Bible or take the place of it. And they contradict the word in one way or another.
A good rule of thumb is: Read the Bible and know it first before picking up anything and then while you read ask the Holy Spirit for discernment and the Lord will let you know if what you read is accurate or not.

The Bible the only book that teaches the truth??? *headdesk* Depends what your opinion of truth is. The people that tell you only the Bible teaches truth believe that the only truth is the Bible. This circular reasoning is meaningless. By that same reasoning, the Koran is the only truth, and I bet you'll find a lot of people in this country challenging that idea.
Spiritual "truth" in my opinion is a journey of learning about yourself, about your fellow humans, about your environment and about what you can do to make the world a better place. Anything that teaches you to be a better person speaks the truth, whether it be a rose, a book, a hymn, or words of gratitude coming from a neighbor's mouth when you help him/her carry groceries. Never limit your sources of knowledge.

The bible is the truth-it is our rule book from God. The more you read it, and live by it, the more you will understand it. It is kind of like only being able to see a little and the more you read and study the Bible, the better your sight becomes.

The Bible has more historical support for accuracies than other books from the BC and early AD years.
As for value and truth, read the Bible and see what is inside. You will be able to judge for yourselve that it is full of wisdom and truth.

There is truth... and then there is TRUTH. You can get true facts and figures from practically any book, or truth according to one person's point of view and opinion, but the Bible is the only inerrant word of God and source of universal truth.
As for the extra books in the catholic bible, they come from unreliable sources.

How about the Tao de ching? The Bhagavad gita? The Qu'uran? Only fundamentalists would say that the Bible is the only book that teaches the truth. Truly educated people learn from many different sources.

The truth is, in my opinion, that these things have been written by people. Influenced by God or not. Its quite possible people with power throught the ages have changed the bible. But anyways, its all a good message, but you have to find the truth within yourself; or the bible means nothing.

Books and teachers can only talk "about" Truth, not teach it. Truth is self-evident. You have to see it for yourself to have the real thing. Anything indirect is only alluding to Truth.
Hint: Truth is wordless. As soon as you put a name on something, you have limited it to only a symbol standing in the place of Truth.
