I didn't really know how the law stood on that one. If I went down to cell phone company and asked for a copy of a bill do they comply?

I am the wife. We started as a joint plan, but I went to another company. The acct is set up online(by me), but I'm not the main administrator. (although I do handle all the bills) I am out of state, so cannot physically retrieve it from the mailbox. I have all acct info EXCEPT acct passcode.

You only get access if your name is on the account. If not, the law says you're not a party to the contract.

When it comes down to payment I think any place is willing to fork over a bill no matter who you are, especially if you have SSN#, address same last name and so forth. You could probably even call and have them send you a copy in the mail. Just say hey I didn't receive a statement this month,I am in charge of the bills and would like to see the actual statement.

depends...who's name is the service in? if it's the wife, then yes, she can get a copy of any bill she wants. i live in a small town and I could go in and ask for my husband's bill (it's in his name, not mine) and they would give it to me because I know all of the employees....The wife could always have a male call and pretend to be the husband requesting a copy of the bill be mailed or faxed...as far as the "law" on this...it's not punishable by prison time so screw it. if she feels there is a need to see the cell phone bill, well she should have every right. and if the husband doesn't have anything to hide, he would show her the bill himself.

Unless you are listed on the account, chances are they will not give you the bills. If you suspect him of cheating, the best way to catch him would be to set up internet access if he hasn't set it up yet. On Verizon, I can look at my bill including all calls made.

Nope fraid not because you are not on the account. Your husban would need to put you on 3rd party authority.
What you need to do is wake up at the crack of dawn and meet the postman and get the bill from there.

No, they won't comply. The information is confidential and is accessible only to the account holder. Even if you could prove that you were the account holder's wife, you're out of luck.

Why do you need it anyway? If you can't ask him for it you must not trust him. If you don't trust him a phone bill isn't going to change that. What I'm trying to say is follow your heart.

They should if your cell phone is through the same plan. You could just ask for a statement for all of your phones and they should give it to you.

They are not supposed to. The privacy act only allows the person on the account to access information.

you should be able to call and request a copy, just don't act like you are not supposed to ask if you seem sure that you are doing the right thing it shouldn't be a problem to obtain a copy
