I know it sounds hard, but you really need to relax when putting the tampon in. If you're too tense, your vaginal muscles will be too tense and the tampon will not go in, no matter how hard you push... it will be very painful. Make sure you're using plastic applicators, they are usually much easier than cardboard ones and glide in much smoother. I recommend Tampax Pearl. Lastly, practice with Lites, they're alot smaller and may be easier for you. Good luck!

Don't sit down. It's much easier if you stand and put one foot on the tub or the toilet. Then don't think "up" so much as "back." Aim toward the base of your spine. Relax, that makes a big difference. Use a tampon with a plastic applicator that has a closed tip - no exposed dry tampon. I prefer Kotex. And don't use lotion - that isn't safe for internal use. If you need some help, try using a lubricant like KY Jelly.

Look under "Resolved Questions". Type in the search box "Can virgins wear tampons?" and you'll find my answer to another girl's question that relates to issues of inserting and using tampons. The short answer is try a lower absorbency or a different type...but my other answer was comprehensive. (The full question was: "Can virgins wear tampons? I've never tried because I'm afraid to, but is it possible? And does it hurt?")

Ouch! I'm sorry- try the plastic applicators and make sure you are using the smallest one possible.
Try laying down with your knees bent and your feet on the floor, then drop your knees to the sides and relax. It will take some practice.
Hang in there.

Make sure you get the kind with plastic applicators there more comfortable to insert. I usually get the Playtex gentle glide or Tampax pearl. Also try to get something that says slim fit or juniors.

to be honest using tampons with applicators are wonderful for beginners with tampons they help you get them in the right place better if you are a little dry. And using a little bit of regular lotion on the tip of a applicator or on a regular tampon with no applicator helps at lot to help slid in and its okay to do as long as its normal lotion.
