I've not heard that saying, but it seems to me to mean that when you become proud of what you've learned or what you think you know, you become closed to new ideas or information. I've heard a saying something like the wisest man is he who thinks he knows nothing. Always staying humble and open to new ideas is key.

The saying just means that learning is merely knowing about other's discoveries and discourses - you have not CREATED or DISCOVERED anything. Anybody can be well-read, well-travelled or well educated. To create something that should be read by others is an achievement. Also, the fool thinks he knows everything, whereas the genius knows he knows nothing. In the grand scheme of things, who are we to assume that we can ever know even 1% of it? There is too much to know, too much to discover and too much to understand for us to be proud of all that we know, no matter how large that amount may be. Hope this helped.

The truly enlightened revel in knowing they know nothing. Sounds strange, right?
Learning is a humble endeavor, something that those in search of knowledge never really "find." It is a journey, impeded by pride because to be proud of something learned stops the learning process.

Because if there is one thing that you should learn in life is that pride comes before a fall and the one who is proud is ignorant of the fact that they will stumble and fall in life because we are all human.
Also , you learn more from experience than you do scholarly education.

Pretty much if you think you know everything there is to know and you don't need to know anything else (cause you think you already know everything) then you are a moron.
