Is oil called Texas T for the way it looks when it comes out of the ground, or Texas tea, because it's a liquid that comes from Texas?

Texas Tea---probably because the crude oil in Texas is a light and sweet crude oil----and it probably resembles a drink made in Texas, called Texas Tea. Here's the recipe:

Texas Tea recipe

Scale ingredients to servings
2 oz tequila
2 oz rum
2 oz vodka
2 oz gin
2 oz bourbon whiskey
2 oz triple sec
2 oz sweet and sour mix
Coca-Cola®

Fill a 1 gallon pitcher with ice. Add all the ingredients except the coca-cola. Stir, then add the coca-cola and stir again. Pour into your favorite glass with ice and enjoy.

Damn, this sounds just like a "Long Island Tea" and I LOVE those things! they don't taste like you're drinking anything and then "BAM" you're on your backside!

Very good question. Interesting. I've spent a lot of time in Texas and never thought of this. I always assumed it was for Tea.

It's T - (I assume from the way it looks when it comes out of the ground.) According to this site:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/intro/oil.htm

But Wikipedia says this:
The term was used in the theme song of the TV show The Beverly Hillbillies, along with the term "Texas Tea", another synonym for crude oil.

I think Wikipedia is correct.
