I am russian and female.
My country is great, i like its nature, culture, literature and heritage. I didnt like the way my country was ruled for many years after "perestroyka", but now things seem to change for the best.
Russian girls are beautiful, many of them are highly educated, intellegent and family-oriented. The only problem is that they have a dream about the price on white horse from the fairy-tale.

I have only been to Moscow, so this observation is specific to that. But there does seem to be quite a high concentration of really attractive women there. People had told me about it and I always thought they were exaggerating, but it is true.
I view Russia to be a similar experience in some ways to NYC. Although NYC is much faster paced in a lot of aspects and overall seems more "edgy". It is neat to check out the sights in Moscow. It can be tough to navigate if you can't read cyrillic or Russian. You should make sure you can at least sound out words or it will be tough to find you way around.
What did I like? Shasleik from street vendors and gypsy cabs (both can be a little sketchy for a generic tourist though).
What didn't I like? I dunno. I was working and that wasn't so fun. It was a little adventurous with some of the food, but overall that aspect was OK. Isure as heck would not want to have rental car there. Traffic was bad and not as organized as in the states.
Oh also, arriving at Sheremtevo airport is always a low point. Customs there is a mob scene and the baggage claim is like out of a comedy movie!

Was born there and have a lot of friends in the US who traveled there on a regular basis. So this is the sum of the impressions from both sides.
Positives:
Russians are very friendly, they like to invite you to their houses and feed you till you are ready to burst. Some are a bit shy at first, as we are taught not to talk to strangers, but if you make the first step to get to know them, they will warm up very fast. Both boys and girls can become your best friends in the matter of days and be very open about personal issues. They will love to learn some English from you, to show you around the city and just to hang out with you.
Words of caution:
You almost never see an overweight Russian teenager. Middle age people - yes, but the body standards among the teens are rather high. They are also very direct . So if you happen to have a few extra pounds and ask your Russian friend, "Am I fat?", expect to hear "yes" .. well, sometimes they might even comment on that without you asking. Political correctness has never been invented in Russia.
You might find personal hygene rather lacking, especially in guys and older people. Just ignore and remember that they cannot smell it themselves, their noses are not as sensitive to human "natural smells" as American noses.
Women are not as equal to men as in the States. Man's opinions and ideas weigh more than woman's, and men are considered generally more valuable to the society. On the other hand you will enjoy a lot of chivalry from guys, like opening the doors, helping you down the steps, cards and flowers etc.
Overall if you ever come to visit you can expect a great experience and meet some very nice people. Girls will be easy to get to know, so you can find out for yourself what they are like in no time.

Yep. Just got back from Russia and Ukraine. It was very interesting seeing the different culture. I am not Russian, but WOW, the girls there are HOT. There is not much of an in between with them either, they are really hot or pretty darn ugly!!!

Two years ago I was in Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg)and in Belarus(MINSK). I loved my trip. People would like to learn different cultures. Going down the street in the Peter, you would never know you are in Russia. Local people dress very nice. And GIRLS? Sorry, i am not a GAY, so i wasn't looking at girls. You should go there and see it by yourself. Good luck!
