if you have the archive files recovered then you can view them with a archive viewer E.g. http://andy.w2s.co.uk/yahoo/products6.htm (scroll down to Y-Offline Archive viewer)

most probably, if I'm right in understanding ur question, ur question is how can u see ur messages from the message archive.
ans is open ur yahoo messenger, sign in, and then go to contacts>message archive. here u will see the complete details of all ur chatting that u made either with ur friends or unknown persons.
If u want to upgrade ur messenger and want to save these message history in the newer version too! then
Open My computer>C>Programme files>yahoo>messenger>profiles: Select your required profile from here(u can select all profiles too), copy and then paste to some other place. Now install new messenger, copy the profiles and follow the same path My computer>C>Programme files>yahoo>messenger>profiles. paste your copied content here.
u will get back ur archive and profile data in this way.
