Why do all newborn babies look like aliens when they first come out?

I am sorry, but most if not all babies look like aliens when they first come out? WHy is that?

I know some of you will try to tell me how cute yours was but I'll bet if you step back a bit and just look you will realize you have an alien baby too!

Hahaha - when our first baby was born I was convinced that he was just plain gorgeous. My husband said that he looked like an alien and I nearly laid him out! I thought my baby was beautiful because Ma Nature, in her infinite wisdom, pumps our hormone levels up to make us think that they're pretty so that we'll take care of them. Think of it as natural beer goggles. If we knew how fugly they really were we'd be much more likely to abandon them.
Now, on to why they are so funny looking. Hey, if you were floating in a warm bath for nine months and were then squished through a door that was waaaayyy too small you'd look like hell too! Their heads are whacked because their skull bones had to flatten out so they could be born. Their faces are mushed from the journey. C-section babies look marginally better for obvious reasons.

Weird Q of yours.. but interesting though.!
I think there are several reasons why you think they look like aliens, such as:
- because the fact that babies' head are much bigger in proportion to their bodies
- they lived in the water for 9 mos, that caused their whole body and face look puffy and odd
- newborn has little hair and weird skin covered with some blood
- babies' head actually changes its shape a bit to allow it to pass through the birth canal.

anyway, after a few days.. they look just adorable...

Ok I have had 2 and I can say for honest yes they did look alien like. Mind you they were both 10 and 12 weeks prem... so they were not rating high on the beautyometer, however they looked like the most gorgeous little babies to me... Hee hee good question

They go through a lot when mothers give birth to them. After a few months, they start looking cute. My little brother probably (I wasn't there to witness his birth) looked like an alien, but now he's adorable. It's a shame I don't get to see him.

Babies have a rough time coming out. Their heads get squeezed out of shape and they are covered with white ****. Yea they don't look too good except to the woman who has carried that child for nine months and went throught agony to give birth. Try it sometime.

Nope mine didn't look that way. They all had perfectly round heads becuase I was such a good pusher they didn't get stuck in the canal. Sorry not ALL babies look like aliens.

The head actually changes shape a bit to allow it to pass through the birth canal. It becomed longer and thinner. It gose away a few hours after birth. This is possoble because if the baby's soft spot.

you'd look a little odd too if you got squeezed through that....
seriously, it's due to swelling from the pressure of birth. Caesarean babies are usually perfect looking. Mine were, as you say, rather "alien" looking...but nothing looked more beautiful to me!

I actually thought they looked like 90 year old men, I mean they have all the features, no teeth, weird skin, very little to no hair...babies look horrible, but try not to say anything mothers tend to be protective.
