I have the URL, how do I get the IP address?

Ping the site. In windows open up a command window by going to the Start Menu -> Accessories -> Command Prompt

Then type "ping URL" for example to get yahoo's IP address

ping yahoo.com

and the following will be returned...

Pinging yahoo.com [66.94.234.13] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 66.94.234.13: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=54
Reply from 66.94.234.13: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=54
Reply from 66.94.234.13: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=54
Reply from 66.94.234.13: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=54

Ping statistics for 66.94.234.13:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 16ms, Maximum = 16ms, Average = 16ms

Assuming you are running windows
click start->run-> type cmd
on the window that opens type nslookup

This will give you the ip address of the site

Start, all programs, accessories, command promt.

Then type ping

ie: ping www.yahoo.com
