You would need to do a fresh install of the OS in the computer you moved it to if you want that hdd to be Master. Otherwise, you could use it as a slave.
I tried doing a Repair with the XP disk on the laptop that the CD came with. However Microsoft had already put a program on the machine concerning Microsoft's Genuine (DIS) Advantage or some crap, and it stated that it was an illegal copy of XP. No it wasnt. I was denied a repair due to Microsoft's crappy detection program.
I had to start from scratch. Don't worry your time isn't worth much to Microsoft.

Unless this computer is a duplicate of the original system, you are going to have a hard time with this. If the original OS is an OEM version, you will have a very hard time (read illegal) getting it activated. The best bet is to run a repair from the original o/s disk if it is full retail or upgrade version. Then explain to microsoft this is a motherboard replacement and they will allow activation.

No,the old hadchronic is composed of hardware and registry instruction from yet another pc and you maximum in all probability see the Blue video show on boot (howdy ,that's me) or the pc will shop restarting.you do no longer ought to format and re installation each and every thing.start up with the OS CD and whilst the installer detects yet another OS modern it somewhat is going to ask you in case you opt to repair this OS.decide on definite and this could restoration it and you will nonetheless have your individual archives.of direction in case you haven't any longer have been given the OS CD you may no longer try this.

well sadly to say with wibndoze xp you can only plug it up as a slave on an ntfs hard drive, you can try with 98 it may work depending on your system i have sene it happen but rare, also consider memory @least 384 with a amd duron processor or pentium 3 before doing this
now if you have a windows 98 machine it ussually wont work and you muist first back up the disk then reinstall xp to it because fat cannot read ntfs but ntfs can read fat (File Allocation table, which is the windows 9x file system) and ntfs, new technonlogy file system)

Your Motherboard has issues with it, so does the bios, and a few other things, but that's the least of your worries, doing the switch as you are doing violates about 3 EULA factors according to Microsoft...... Good Luck

yes, if your computer don't start you need to re-install the xp again, but if your xp is from a recovery disc thats why it's only to run with that kind of computer.
