I have a 2001 ford mustang gt My car turned off yesterday and when I turned it back on it said check engine. AutoZone told me it was the crankshaft positioning sensor (they used the device they have to check the code ) and I changed it but after a while the light came back on and the sensor got messed up again. What could the problem be? What causes a crankshaft sensor to go bad?

Well if you are not alining the sensor with the balancer it woun't last long . If the sensor is not hitting on the metal tabs on the balancer . You probale have a wire that is bare shorting to ground or an issue with the ECM . Take it to a shop that is well know for drivablity repairs .

On maximum Fords a examine engine gentle shows a concern with the O2 sensor you could replace this. The crank place sensor is a Halleffect change that generates an electric pulse whilst a magnet passes the sensor. now and lower back a voltage is utilized to the sensor and whilst the magnet passes the sensor it generates a flucuation in that static voltage it incredibly is then measured via the ECM. Its the comparable theory with the O2 sensor, i might look into changing the O2 sensor next given the vehicles age. you additionally can circulate to a save, if the sunshine has come on a concern code has been set interior the pc, as quickly as the subject is resolved the code must be bumped off. in case you reside in a tail pipe checking out state the motor vehicle will fail the try if the code isn't cleared after the subject is corrected.
