sounds iffy. If you have a Target near you, they have a bunch of colored ones in the dollar department right now.

It could overheat and start a fire. Not many paints can handle the heat of a light bulb. Plus plain lightbulbs are made to operate only as manufactured.
To safely get the effect you desire, go get a bulb that is colored throughout.

It most likely wouldn't burn down the entire city, but the paint might melt off, or start bubbling and possibly light something on fire. You can buy light bulbs that are colored, or that have shapes colored onto them. You could probably do it yourself if you used heat safe paint. Whatever you do, just be careful huh?

Don't do it! Different paints will react in different ways but NONE
will stay the color you painted them. The surface of a light bulb when on is like 600 degrees. The paint will bake and burn and stink.
They make colored bulbs called party bulbs you can usually find them in your grocery store amazingly enough.

I imagine that if you paint a lightbulb, the paint will bubble, melt and burn while the bulb is lit, and possibly emit toxic fumes.
Just go buy a fancy light bulb.

It won't cause a fire. I would use high-heat paint if you were really scared. I painted lightbulbs for a back-light.(they were painted red with regular spray paint) and they worked fine.

I doubt it. But it may cause the lightbulb to heat up more than usual and explode, depending on the color.

i wouldnt go over a 60 watt bulb because they tend to get really hot. just use a high temerature spray paint from autozone. they sell all kinds of colors that are meant to be used on hot engine blocks that get up to 500 degrees. they are pretty cheap too. good luck.
